20 August 1826 Pope Leo XII Forbids Jews Leaving Ghetto in Rome Without Written Permission #otdimjh

A new edict from Pope Leo XII forbids Jews from leaving their ghetto in Rome without a written permit from the Criminal Tribunal [from skepticism.org]

While outside the ghetto, Jews are forbidden from speaking in a “familiar way” with Christians.

Forcing Jews to live in ghettos was one of the most important anti-Jewish measures created by the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. Jews are placed in ghettos in order to prevent them from interacting on a normal, human basis with Christians.

A Jewish presence among Christians is abhorred and Jews themselves are treated like carriers of a pestilence who must be quarantined lest they infect healthy people.

Prayer: Father, forgive the way the church has so often restricted the freedom and excluded your people. Cleanse our hearts from all hatred and discrimination, and help us show the love of Yeshua to all. In his name we pray. Amen.
